เมื่อวันที่ 29 พฤศจิกายน 2561 คณะกรรมการสหภาพยุโรปได้ออกประกาศ Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/1865 of 28 November 2018 concerning the non-renewal of approval of the active substance propiconazole, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market, and amending Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 540/2011 ว่าด้วยการไม่ต่ออายุให้ propiconazole เป็นสารออกฤทธิ์ (Active Substances) ในผลิตภัณฑ์อารักขาพืช (Plant Protection Products) เนื่องจากพบว่าเมตาบอไลต์ NOA436613 ของสารดังกล่าวมีความเป็นพิษ ที่ส่งผลกระทบต่อค่าพาราเมตริกในน้ำดื่มที่มาจากน้ำบาดาลเกินค่ามาตรฐานที่กำหนดไว้ 0.1 µg/l แม้ว่าจะมีผลการทดลองใช้สารดังกล่าวทุก ๆ 2 ปีก็ตาม นอกจากนี้ อาจมีเมตาบอไลต์ตัวอื่น ๆ ที่มีความเป็นพิษต่อระบบการสืบพันธุ์นอกเหนือไปจากสารตั้งต้นของ propiconazole รวมถึงผลกระทบที่เป็นพิษต่ออวัยวะต่อมไร้ท่อ ซึ่งระเบียบดังกล่าวมีผลบังคับใช้ 20 วันหลังจากการประกาศใน EU Official Journal (ประกาศ ณ วันที่ 29 พฤศจิกายน 2561)

          ทั้งนี้ คณะกรรมาธิการยุโรปได้กำหนดให้ประเทศสมาชิกดำเนินการเพิกถอนการอนุญาตใช้ผลิตภัณฑ์อารักขาพืชที่มีส่วนผสมของสาร propiconazole ภายในวันที่ 19 มิถุนายน 2562 และสามารถยื่นขอขยายช่วงเวลาเปลี่ยนผ่านได้ ไม่เกินวันที่ 19 มีนาคม 2563 เว้นแต่จะมีการยื่นขอให้พิจารณาต่ออายุการใช้สารดังกล่าวอีกครั้ง
