เมื่อวันที่ 1 ตุลาคม 2561 คณะกรรมการสหภาพยุโรปได้ออกประกาศ COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2018/1462 of 28 September 2018 amending the Annex to Regulation (EU) No 231/2012 laying down specifications for food additives listed in Annexes II and III to Regulation (EU) No 231/2012 laying down specifications for food additives listed in Annexes II and III to Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards specifications for certain sorbitan esters (E491 Sorbitan monostearate, E492 Sorbitan tristearate and E 495 Sorbitan monopalmitate) ว่าด้วยการปรับแก้ไขข้อกำหนดสารกลุ่ม sorbitan esters ได้แก่ Sorbitan monostearate (E491) Sorbitan tristearate (E492) และ Sorbitan monopalmitate (E495) ในบัญชีรายชื่อวัตถุเจือปนอาหารที่ได้รับอนุญาตให้สามารถใช้ในอาหารตามระเบียบ Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 และยกเลิกการใช้ระยะการแข็งตัว (congealing range) เป็นตัวชี้วัดคุณสมบัติ (identification parameter) สำหรับสารดังกล่าว โดยให้ใช้การทดสอบค่าความเป็นกรด ไอโอดีน และแก๊สโครมาโทกราฟีเป็นตัวชี้วัดบ่งบอกคุณสมบัติแทน ซึ่งมีผลบังคับใช้ 20 วันหลังจากการประกาศใน EU Official Journal (ประกาศ ณ วันที่ 1 ตุลาคม 2561) โดยมีรายละเอียด ดังนี้
